Q: 2004 Mazda 6 bumpy ride. Is it suspension (struts or shocks) or low-profile tires?
I recently purchased a 2004 Mazda 6. It has 70,000 km on it (43750 miles). I notice that the ride is very bumpy. Basically I feel and hear every single bump or cracks on the road or the highway. Is this normal? If not what is it to blame?
I am maintaining the tire pressure at the suggested 32 psi for all 4 tires. Should I be trying to vary this for improvement? The tires as you know are low profile (profile ratio: 50). I know these kind of tires are known to have a little bumpy ride. Or could it be the struts?
Comments from any Mazda 6 owners would also be greatly helpful. Any mechanics out there would also be able to provide great answer to my question. Thank you all in advance.
........Just want to clarify that I would like to know if something is wrong with the car or if this sounds normal for a Mazda 6. Any suggestions for improvement in ride quality would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
A: I have a 2003 Mazda 6 and if your car has the OEM tires, which are Michelin, then I would strongly suggest changing them. I found those tires to be a bit too hard and not exactly sticking to the road during high-speed driving maneuvers and hard/fast cornering. I also noticed a tremendous amount of road noise from those Michelins.
As far as the actual suspension is concerned, please realize that this vehicle has a very stiff and sporty suspension system, which could be interpreted by some to be, as you've deemed it, a rough ride. Most "sporty" cars possess that stiff(rough) ride. Then again, perhaps having someone look at your suspension system may not be a bad idea as a method of ruling out any doubts that may exist in your mind. It could very well be a bad strut...
Another thing to check might be the air pressure in the tires. The higher the PSI, the rougher the ride may seem. On the other hand, I've noticed that the higher the PSI, the better the handling. It is definitely a give and take. It all depends upon what you consider to be more important. If you want a quieter ride, I would keep all four tires at around 30 psi. If you want better handling/steering response, you'd do well to keep the tires at 37-38 psi. By all means, though, when you get a chance to do so, get rid of the stock Michelin tires that the vehicle came with(if that is what is on your vehicle). I've been pleased with Kuhmo and Pirelli.
Finally, it wouldn't hurt to have your alignment checked out. It may be a bit off...
Good luck!
P.S. simply out of curiosity, what engine does your car have?
A 2.3L I4 or the 3.0 V6?
In case you didn't know, the 2.3L I4 is labeled the Mazda 6i and the 3.0 V6 is labeled the Mazda 6s.
Q: Can I change the 17 inch wheels on my 2004 Mazda 6 to 15 inch wheels. ?
I was recently in Ohio and ran into someone who pulled the 17 inch rims off her car and put 15 inch rims on it. Since I am sick of paying $850 a set for 17 inch tires would this work on a Mazda 6 2004 hatchback - only thing I can see that would change is the clearance on the brake callipers might interfere. What else could happen here.
A: Fouling brakes or suspension could be a problem. What will be a problem though is that downgrading the tires that much will drastically change how the car drives - how it stops, how it handles, how it rides. Remember, you bought the car because you liked how it drove.
It is possible to get a set of P215/50R17 93V tires for far less than $800+ if you do a little shopping.
Q: What is the top speed of a 2004 mazda 6 with a V6 engine?
I've looked on the net and they tell me the 4 cycle get 120, I want to know what the V6's top speed is.
A: Probably 124....there are a lot of things that factor into top speed besides engine size...gearing, tire size,.. weight....
Q: How much should a transmission fluid and power steering fluid flush on a 2004 Mazda 6?
My dealer said that the power steering fluid and the transmission fluid were black and need to be flushed and changed. I just don't want to get ripped off.
I have just under 53,000 miles...should I have it checked at a Goodyear or other shop for a second opinion about the power steering fluid?
A: If you don't want to get ripped off, don't go to the dealer. Go to a lube shop. There is NO way your power steering system needs to be flushed after only 3 years unless you've somehow managed to put 200k miles on it.
The transmission should be flushed every 30k miles. It costs about $90 at a lube shop.
Q: I owe A 2004 Mazda 6 Sports wagon, I got the original sound system of the car and sometimes whenever I play CD
the car has only 12,000 miles on and one of my speakers, specifically the left side goes off, its very weird because I switch to Radio mode just to see if there is something wrong with the speaker and in radio mode the speaker sounds normally. It only happens sometimes, usually the speakers will work normally but then all of a sudden the left side will go off, just in CD mode. Could it be a problem with the Sound system?, Please help me thank you.
A: it sounds like its in side the radio having to do with the cd player not sending a signal to the output wires in the deck or it could be the lazer in the cd part of the radio
Q: How often should the transmission fluid in my 2004 Mazda 6 be changed ?
A: I beg to differ from the others. Transmission fluid (TF)need not be changed, unlike engine oil. Reason : oil engine get thinner and thinner after a period of use but not TF. TF need to be top up as a result of evaporation (after a long period of use) and your mechanic can do that as part of servicing. No need to change per se.
Q: I have a 2004 Mazda 6, what would be the best way to sell it?
Would I have better luck advirtising in the local paper, or taking it to a dealership such as CarMax?
A: I would definatly go and run ads in autotrader it will show up in the magazines and the internet. They personally sell great You should try it no offense but if you take it to a dealership more than likely you wouldnt get the price out of it you wanted so try running ads if nothing else works then the LAST choice i would make is dealership!
Q: What is the easiest way to replace the high beam bulb on a 2004 Mazda 6 sedan?
A: remove the old one first then install the new one.
Q: Where can I buy a 2004 Mazda 6 Car Battery Online?
I'm looking to get my husband a new car battery for his car that he hasn't operated in a few months (while gas was really pricey) and I want to get one for him by Christmas. I was hoping to find one online so that I can surprise him.
A: those items are not allowed to be shiped by postal service so you will not find anywhere on line that item
get an optima battery those are good ones or ACDelco
Q: Thumping or Thudding coming from 2004 Mazda 6. Any ideas what would cause it?
I have a 2004 Mazda 6. There is a little over 60,000 miles on there. (Mostly freeway). I got new tires around 40,000 and new breaks around 50,000. Both were the replacements of the originals. When I drive down the road my car began to make this thudding/thumping sound. I'm not sure what the cause is, but it seems to be in unison with the rotation of the tires. The faster I go the faster the thudding becomes and vice versa .kind of like this dud....dud....dud...dud..dud.dud.dudududududud haha.. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am taking it a mechanic next saturday (today it thursday) should I be concerned that I may further damage things?
A: You may have a bent wheel or a few. My Mazda just came back from the shop with the same problem. It only showed up after I had the tires rotated and moved the bent one to the front.
Q: What kind of spark plugs should i use for my 2004 Mazda 6 V6?
A: NGK's work real well in a Mazda. Like C7S said up top never use Champion. I had a friend use Champions in her 2000 626 and they caused all kinds of problems. You should not use platinum plugs either if you have a DOHC because they will burn way too hot and that's not good.
Q: How do you change the brakes and rotors on a 2004 mazda 6. Not standard hex head bolts!!!?
A: i own a repair shop, and those use a star head socket to take them off with once you get the bolts out of it,,you have to remove the bracket that holds the calipers on,from the back side, and the rotors should come right off of it,,if there stuck just tap them with a hammer and they,ll jar loose on it,,and that's pretty much it,,just be care full when you mash the calipers in to re-seat them,do it slowly,,other than that it a fairly easy job to do,good luck,i hope this help,s.
Q: How fast can a 2004 mazda 6 go at top speed has anyone got it to where the govenor kicks in?
A: Yeah it is 120 MPH and yes the ECU cuts power if you hit 120 on the dot and maintains that speed indefinitely if you keep it floored in 5th on a manual. I had a 2004 6S w/ 5-speed manual transmission for couple years. If you leave it in 4th to the rev limitter you can go a bit faster than 120 in 4th - you cannot do this in the auto.
Q: 2004 Mazda 6 Grinding noises?
I have a 2004 mazda 6. Out of nowhere my car started to make really bad noises. When I drove it sounds like something is being dragged under my car...like if I was dragging a chunk of metal. I couldnt tell where it was coming from. When I breaked the sound pretty much went away. It was SUPER loud.
Its not the break pads, they were recently checked by a dealership, and there is NO noise when I break. The breaks seem to be working fine
Last night I took my car out again...had to reverse to get out of my spot and it made a weird noise...but then didnt make any weird noise while driving after that? Is it possible that there was a rock lodged or something, and when I reversed it came out?
A: It sounds like you had a rock or piece of road debris lodge somewhere in your tire brakes. It also sounds like it came out as well. Just keep a ear out on your car...as if the noise doesn't come back your good.
Q: I have a 2004 mazda 6, 4 door sedan and would love to trade it in for a chrysler pacifica which is roomier?
which is roomier for family......the car i now have has not been paid for yet and i want to trade it in for a larger vehicle.?
Is this a bad idea?
A: The pacifica is defintally roomier, but the price tag on them is a little pricey, i've never been a big mazda fan but... can tell you the pacificas are reliable cars, as far as transmissions.. we dont see all that many failures in them as the reply above indicates. Since your car isn't paid off yet and you want to trade it in you may want to look for a prior rental pacifica... there are quite a few out there basically the rental companys lease them for a year then they go to auction, with remainder of factory waranty left... just an idea, may save you a chunk of change if you choose to buy one.
