Q: does a 1990 mazda miata have a low fuel indicator warning light?
I have a 1990 mazda miata, and I want to know if the car has a warning light for low fuel reminder/indicator. is there any?
for ex. for most cars, when gas reaches rock bottom like less than a gallon a low fuel warning light turns on on the car dash board on the gasoline gauge. this would remind drivers to fill the tank immediatly for its low on gas.
thanks
A: The NA models (1990-1997) didn't come with a low fuel light
Q: is it normal for a 1990 mazda miata to go 70 mph at 4500 rpms in 5th gear?
i was on the freeway and noticed the high rpms.does the transmission have another gear? if so at what point is it supposed to shift in to it?
A: That is not a normal RPM for a 90 Miata. I do 85mph in my 91 Miata and I do not hit 4,500 RPMs. Heck mine stays around 4,000 RPMs at 85 mph. So I would say you need not only a tune up, but a full service to see why your having this kind of issue.
Q: I have a 1990 Mazda Miata and the odometer that tells the speed and the milage on it is not functioning?
I do not know if this is a fuse you have to change or if some kind of wiring that doesnt work. Your help is greatly appreciated.
A: The speed gage and odometer are partially linked. The fact your speed gage is working means your odomenter is bust. That means between the gear system on the axle to the gear system on the gage there is a busted gear. It is all set on timing and given yours is a 90 it is based on mechanical timing and not computer computations. Take your Miata into a certified Mazda CSE tech and get it fixed.
Q: How do you change the speed of the turn signals in a 1990 Mazda Miata?
I had fixed my left brake light, and in the process accidentally alternated the speed of the signal to fast, so I'd like to either change the right signal to fast or fix the left one back to normal speed. Links would be great if available.
A: If its blinking faster than normal, change the bulb....its a sign that the bulb is dying. The bulbs are actually designed to do this, so that u replace them before they burn out completely.
Q: I have a 1990 Mazda Miata. I lent to a friend. he accidently backed into a palm tree.?
The back bumber is dented, but the sides around the license plate broke into pieces like a jigsaw puzzle. until we can take it to a body shop. what kind of glue can I use to glue this back together?
A: This is a pretty tough plastic you best bet would be abs glue that you can get in the plumbing department of a hardware store. It is used to glue black pipes together.
Q: What is the best/suggested spark plug gaps for a 1990 Mazda Miata?
Is it absolutely necessary to have it exact to the mm? and how about the order of installation?
A: As long as the rest of your engine is stock I would go with these
http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?deptid=4529&parentid=0&stocknumber=04-56100
If by mm you are talking about the gap - then it doesn't need to be 100% but as you see in the link from FM, .40 to .44 is fine.
Go with these for turbo or supercharger applications
http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?deptid=4529&parentid=0&stocknumber=04-56200
you could gap them a bit less than stated either.
Flyin Miata is pretty much the bible when it comes to Miata's and performance and I swear by them. And i have owned WAYYYYY too many Miatas.
For additional research check out www.miata.net and their forum and garage areas.
Q: Worth Buying a 1990 Mazda Miata?
I came across a 1990 Mazda miata for sale and i am interested in buying it but the downside is that the car has 433,000 km (270,625 miles) so im wondering if its a good buy or if i should stay away from such an old car with such high mileage?
A: I have owned 2 Miata. And I've even been in a head on accident. That said you didn't list the price... so if you are prepared to update/repair a (almost) 20 year old car with a warn out engine(I am assuming it's original) and you love the original model ( the 1.6 L short nose engines had problems)
Check Miata.Net, Edmunds, and Kelly. Short ans. is it should cost you very much and be prepared to fix/replace to keep it going.
If you really want an MX-5 at a reasonable price look into a NB (second gen) 1999-2005.
Q: 1990 Mazda Miata won't shift gears?
I have a 1990 Mazda Miata with a manual transmission. Just today, my shifter was stuck in reverse gear and I can't move my shifter to put it into another gear. Funny thing is, I can slide the gear back into first and second, but yet, it's still stuck in reverse and when I let the clutch go, I'll be going backwards only. What is wrong? Easy fix
A: I'll give you two things...
One, your answer. Two, the best resource on the Internet for Miatas.

I'm not going to claim to have fully read and understood this, but you're far more motivate than me, so good luck.
(FWIW, I have a 1990 Miata as well and I'll bookmark this page, just in case.)
Q: Does anyone know the suggested/best spark plug gaps for a 1990 Mazda Miata?
Is it absolutely necessary to have it at the exact mm? Order of installation?
A: 1.1mm
Yes, it is absolutely necessary to have it at 1.1mm. Most spark plugs come pre-gapped, but check them before installation.
It doesn't matter the order of installation. Just make sure you put the right spark plug's connecting wire in the right cylinder. A picture labelling their firing order is on this page: http://www.miata.net/garage/ignition.html
Q: does a 1990 mazda miata mx5 have an alarm system?
I have a 1990 mazda miata and i'm wondering if the car is equipped with alarm and/or keyless entry system would i call it or both. When my car was first bought by my brother in 2002 i thought i saw that it came with a keyless entry remote or something like that, but i don't think it ever worked. Also, currently inside the car right on the console box right in between the cup holder and the arm rest box there is a small obvious red bulb that usually shown in other cars that flashes or stays on until the car is unlocked with a remote.
I just want to know if the car originally came with a keyless entry alarm system. And In my opinion, I think it is disconnected or disabled. I don't have no clue at all.
Any personal or professional experience or knowledge?...
Thanks alot
A: The 1990 Miata came in three models.
Base model - Manual steering, 14-inch steel wheels and no radio
Package A - Power-assisted steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum alloy wheels and cassette stereo with anti-theft coding
Package B - A items plus cruise control, power windows and headrest speakers
Your car has had some mods made to it.
- No keyless entry
- No alarm system
- No cup holder (I suspect your brother, or the previous owner, replaced the ashtray with a cup holder)
- No red bulb in the arm rest.
Q: 1990 mazda miata limited slip differential (LSD)?
i have a question about the limited slip differential which in short term called the "LSD"
First, i have a 1990 mazda miata mx5, and i'm wondering if i could replace my standard differential with an LS differential.
is it possible by any chance on my car?
And how is the gas mileage compared to standard regular differential?
also, how much money is it to start this job?? like labor and part?
lastly, how many component parts does it require for this job to be taken in progress?
Thank You for all your help and advice in advanced!~
A: you can replace your standard differential with a lsd. you shouldn't notice a difference with fuel mileage. the best thing to do is swap the 94+ diff into your car, because the 94+ is the far superior torsen lsd, as opposed to the viscous lsd used in earlier models. here are some links with info on the swap, they include some prices, but i have no clue what labor would cost you, i'm going to guess they will charge you probably 5-6 hours @ $50 - $100/hr.

Q: Problems shifting my 1990 mazda miata?
The transmission in my 1990 mazda miata was shifting fine before I went into school. I got out of class after 2 hours, got into my car, started it, and had a hard time shifting into reverse. Then when I tried to shift into first, it would shift. I tried the other gears and had the similar problem. Turned off the car, and didn't have a problem going through the gears. Turned the car back on and was able to get trough the gears but with a major struggle. I was able to get home, but had to struggle all the way home with shifting. No weird sounds or anything else abnormal, just the hard shifting. What could be wrong? How much would it be to repair?
A: hydraulic clutch is the culprit...check for fluid level and leak.....you might want to bleed it also for some air in the tube....goodluck.
Q: What would it cost to fix up my 1990 Mazda Miata?
I have a 1990 red mazda miata with a black top, that has 88k original miles on it. Mechanically, it doesnt have any problems except the A/C needs a recharge. Cosmetically, it has a crack in the dash, a crack in the plastic where the radio mounts(not the actual radio itself), the top COULD use replacing, it looks good from the outside(3 years old), but on the other side of it, it is worn, mainly from the sun because the previous owner rode it with the top down without using the soft top boot(or whatever its called..it snaps over the convertible top when its down to keep it in place and protect it). He lost it so i don't have one. There is 1 very small hole in it, not sure if its big enough for water to leak in. The paint needs some work, the driver side door is a slightly different shade of red, hard to tell from pictures, and there are scratches here and there that need to be touched up, but the main problem with the paint is the rear end near the license plate. There is a piece of the body missing on the bottom of the trunk, and the paint has come off there as well. I think the radio needs to be replaced too, because it cuts out while playing(sounds like lack of signal...like a cheap walmart hand radio) and the digital display messes up on it. Those are all my main concerns on it. Anyone have an idea what it would cost to fix all this? I payed $2100 for the car earlier this week.

A: > the A/C needs a recharge
The thing to be careful of here is that the AC "technology" has changed. Can you still get a recharge on the AC?
> Cosmetically, it has a crack in the dash, a crack in the plastic where the radio mounts(not the actual radio itself)
The "Miata Center Console Panel" costs about $90 and it easy to install.
Check miata.net (it will be your friend) for the dashboard replacement.

Do something to cover the hole (tape it on the inside or something). You could probably get a new top for $600-$700 (with a plastic window).

I got a Maaco paint job for $530.
>There is a piece of the body missing on the bottom of the trunk, and the paint has come off there as well.
That whole back piece would have to be replaced. You may need to seek out a junkyard to get one of these at a reasonable price.

$100 will get you a great radio. Check Crutchfield for the right fit.
I'm going to guess that you would be looking at around $1500-$1800.
Q: I'm getting a 1990 Mazda Miata do they have air bags?
It's a convertable and has two seats in it..
but does it have air bags? its my first car so... yeahhh.
A: Drivers side only. I think you have to go to a 93 for dual air bags, but I could be wrong on this.
Q: whats the best sound system for a 1990 mazda miata?
i have 4 speakers 2 are in the head rest
A: just go to www.crutchfield.com and put in your car info
I recommend replacing the head unit, and all 4 speakers. Go with something credible like pioneer, alpine, etc.
you could do it easily for 250-300$ and get a pretty loud system.
