Q: Where can I get a fuse box diagram for a 1997 Mazda Miata MX-5?
A: Swing by any Mazda dealership and tell them what you'd like to have: a printout of the "Body Relays & Unit" diagram that shows the fuse box. It's free and direct from Mazda. Some one could be nice enough to just fax you a pic or even email it you to (which I can do either).
Q: $3,800 - 1997 Mazda Miata MX5, 80K miles, clean, drives "great" GOOD DEAL?
It's a decent deal no? Considering the "drives great" wasn't any kind of lie?
I used the value calculator thingy on Edmonds.com and it was around 4K, so I think there isn't anything wrong with it..
A: If you have a mechanic friend, get him/her to go over it bumper to bumper and make sure it's ok. If not... do some reading online at:
http://forum.miata.net/
You should find lots of information there about what to expect to be wrong with a '97 vintage Miata.
My guess is that it's ok. Providing that the soft top is in good condition (with good care 10 years lifespan is easily achievable so examine it carefully INCLUDING THE WINDOW ZIPPER!), everything mechanical is likely ok. Find out if it was winter driven, or stored for winter. If it was winter driven, look for rust due to salt corrosion. If it was stored, ask if any synthetic oils were used... stored vehicles that hold synthetic motor or transmission oil CAN have interior corrosion. If the base is ready to go... say NO!
Does the deal include a hardtop? If it does... that's a bonus IF you live where you'll need it. If you don't, and you can park it in the shade for most of it's life, which will extend the life of the soft top a lot, then a hard top is just something you'll have kicking around, getting in your way.
As for actually driving it in the winter, I drove my Miata in snow, and found it to handle extremely well. Despite being a rear wheel drive, I found it remarkably able. Pirelli winter tires were highly recommended for the Miata back in the 90's... I'm not sure if they still make one, but I expect they do. I also recall hearing other people remark about it's abilities in less-than-Summery driving conditions... obviously, if you want a Miata... you're not thinking about winter driving... if that's a concern, look at an all-wheel-drive vehicle of any make...
Oh, and since it's around the 80k mark in milage, ask if it's had its 80k dealer service... that should include changing the timing belt. If it has been done, consider that a plus... because a broken timing belt is a terrible, terrible thing....
Hope this helps!
Q: Mazda Miata headlights 1990-1997?
What kind of other headlights could you put on a mazda miata 1990-1997? For example, if there are any other cars that have the same pop out thing, besides the "round" headlights (because those look nasty). Or like the Nissan 300ZX that doesnt hve pop out lights but are fitted. If you think that there are anyother cars, or if you have a car like that and you think it will fit, could you please measure them and let me know. I will measure mine to see if they will match. I want to get rid of those nasty goofy looking miata headlights.
I dont want low profile headlights. I want something that does NOT pop out open. Anything that can be cheaper than $300, because i know there are some conversions but they cost over $600.
A: Dude,
Your not going to get out for less than $300 for a quality kit...mostly because Mazda moded the Miata in 97 and took care of the light issue. This means your paying for a custom design for a vehicle fast approaching 20 years of age.
Go to this website http://www.advancedautomotiveconcepts.com/MiataKitPage.shtml
Their light kit is $600 for the entire shooting match. However, they also sell it piece by piece, so you could by a piece at a time to make it easier on your budget. If I were you, I would use your tax refund and just buy the entire kit and convert your Miata.
Q: How hard would it be to install a 5.0L Ford Engine into a 1997 Mazda 626?
I saw some really cool Mazda Miata's with the 5.0 Mustang Engine in them and I was just thinking that since Mazda was built by Ford that the engine would work in my 626.

Q: Whats a good car gift for my Dad?(It's a 97 Miata)?
I've got a old Dad who's turning 53 in about a month, and I wanted to buy him a gift for his car, a 1997 Mazda Miata(first gen). He used to drive a fastback Ford Fairlane and several other muscle cars. Now he's older and convinced himself to get a cheap Mazda Miata. He onestly loves how the car drives and handles. Anyways, what do you guys think would be a good gift for his car. Currently he has headers, catback exhust, roll'bars, front lip, spoiler, and short shifter. I remember him mentioning that he would like some darkened tail lights, yet I couldn't find any. I'm not super rich because I'm still in school, so I was thinking about buying him something around the range of $40-$70. Could you guys think of anything?
If I didn't answer enough in my description just post me back and I'll edit the response or just e-mail me. -Thanks!
A: Dude,
You can get the darkened Miata tail lights on Ebay for under $70 before shipping and several sights have reasonable shipping. I am sure he would love them. I have included a link to make it easier for you.

Q: Coolant tank question?
This morning when I was filling up my coolant tank. I notice that the coolant has this thick light brown color to it. It almost looks like mud. What could of cause this? It wasn't there last night. Help. (1997 Mazda Miata)
A: Hi Roxylee, If you know someone, I would ask them to flush your cooling circuit!
If not, go to a mechanic you trust and tell him that you want your cooling circuit flushed or have it done in conjuction with your next service!
The residue is caused from old coolant that has broken down and finallly moved to the header tank. If you ignore this it could block cooling galeries in your engine causing undue wear and tear!
Make sure you check that it's not oil that is in your coolant. When your engine is cold, remove the oil filler cap on top of your motor and using a torch inspect the head for coolant!
If there is traces of coolant in the head, you have done a head gasket!
Don't drive your car if you find this and send it to a reputable mechanic to have an exchange head put on your engine.
You should be able t source one yourself and they don't cost too much if you go through a wrecker or someone they might know. They usually have a mileage guarantee that comes with them as well!
Good Luck,
Troy.
Q: Insurance rate?
Hi, in the summer i'll be driving soon. Can anybody tell me how much I would have to pay to be insured for 6 months by Farmers? I'm 17, and I'm not eligible for the Good Student discount. I heard that my insurance rate would be cheaper if my parents add me to their policy. I'll probably be driving a 1990-1997 Mazda Miata MX-5. Also, what's a good, cheap auto insurance company do you guys recommend for teenagers?
A: http://x.azjmp.com/0X0tW
You can get compare all insurance for the better rate out there. Farmers could be more expersive than you thought. So compare other insurances could save you from $100 to $400!

A: Why would you want to use a car to attract women? If that's the only reason they'll talk to you, why would you even wanna be associated with someone that shallow & airheaded? It shouldn't matter whether you drive a sports car or a Scooby Doo van- if a girl doesn't like you for you, then you don't need her.
