Q: 1985 mazda rx7 spits and sputters?
spits and sputters between 1quarter throttle and 3 quarter throttle. It idles smooth.Accelerates good when held to the floor.Would the main air bleed control solenoid valve be the problem? Yes it is a 12A engine Manual says it has idle speed and mixture screw in the trottle housing.I can not find mixture screw in the throttle housing.Instead there is a vacuum line where the mixture screw should be,and all appears to be factory.

A: Hmmmm, I would say no to a vac leak, cause your idle would be like hell. And not the shutter valve, cause then you would get no acceleration. It could be idle jets are getting clogged (assuming you have a 12a) I believe the air bleeds where for for deceleration only. Could also be getting leaks from the between the carb and the venturi plate or the spacer plate. Cant say much for 13b's thou. ive really only worked with 12a's

Q: Mazda RX7 1985?
OK...I have an 85 Mazda RX7 and the thing is ok except from time to time, some times more often than not, it "surges" I am not sure how else to describe it. But this only happens when I reach 40 MPH or more and does not happen everytime, but more and more lately. Is this possibly a problem with the fuel line or possibly the mix of air and fuel? Anyone know? Or anyone have car with similar problems?

A: Antique Mazdas need love too replace the fuel filter first it's under the car. Clean air filter might help make sure the mechanical choke cable is working properly. Then it's time to find an old MAZDA Technician. Distributer plug wires and correct spark plugs Fuel pressure and corect carburator functioning should be left to a technician.

Q: we are trying to found a used rx7 1985 mazda starter ignition with keys?
any parts that are reasonable used

A: thats sort of a tough part. i would recommend going to a junkyard, and taking the starter out of a junked mazda, then make note of the VIN number of that car. have the dealer VIN cut you a key, it will probably cost between 10 and 20 dollars, and you've got yourself an ignition with keys = )

Q: is a mazda rx7 worth it?> i think its a 1985?

A: They are very expensive to repair but otherwise they are a well built car. As long as you don't live in a cold climate they are a decent vehicle and I would recommend it. Yes they use oil, they are designed to inject small amounts of oil into the gas to lube the seals. The seals tend to go very quick in sub zero temperature causing the motor to lose compression and need a complete rebuild.

Q: help please! rx7 shudders/jerks ?
I just bought a 1985 mazda rx7 1.1 rotary. It has a four barrel carb on it and tonight after driving it all day (i've had it for two days) I was driving up a fairly steep hill and it started jerking violently as if it wanted to stall. I thought I might be in too high of a gear but shifted down and it did the same thing after a while. So much so that I thought it would stall and quickly pulled over. When I tried going up after it was ok but obiously somethings off. I think I know of a couple things that might cause this behaviour but if you could chose the top three things to look at replacing/fixing, what would they be?? Note - spark plugs and wires were new. - runs great and idles great when warm. after idling for a few minutes at a red light, revs drop to 500-700 rpm and become less stable.

A: I also have a 1985 12a RX7 and mine does the same thing. But only if i am in 3rd or 4th gear and come down to lower rev's. A rotary realy likes the rev's, so if your on a steep hill take it in second gear, if real steep and low speed, 1st. It would also be a good idea to take it to you mechanic and get him to check the car's mechanical system for any un-necessary play. And remember, rotary's are very high maintenance and if you want to keep it on the road: -Check the oil every TWO days. If you dont, and even let it get down for a little while, it can screw your engine. Keep it topped up. They do consume oil, and you need to be on top of it. -Check your water religiously, again, if it goes down and you overheat, big troubles. -Change your oil every 3000km preferably. -Rev it to the red line once or twice a week, i know it sounds crazy but it helps keep carbon deposits down. Remember to do it when in gear and under load. Also i recommend you get it tuned. Mine does the same thing with the idle, they do have rough idles but a tune will help it over all, performance, drive ability and economy. Cheer's

Q: Turbocharging Rotary engine without leaning on gas setup?
On a 1985 mazda rx7 13B rotary engine, up graded and pressurized carburator 48mm Dellorto, T-04 turbocharger boosting 15psi for 350hp with a MSD fuel pump, pumping 43Lgh at 42psi with the stock fuel lines 5/16 I know this setup can be done with Carburator & Turbo. My question is can it work with the fuel pummp and stock fuel lines without leaning the motor on gas

A: I predict complete engine failure. The fuel pump by itself is not going to increase the fuel pressure.

Q: Where do I find the engine number on a rotary engine?
I know the rotary engine is a 12A, and the year is anywhere from 1981-1985. It is a standard tranny, and i need to know the year so i can buy a new starter. If it helps the body is a 1979 mazda rx7

Q: Mazda and Emissions?
I have a 1985 RX7 and just failed emissions. I scored a 2.45 and the standard is 2.40 and then also a 29.15 and the standard is 20.00. Couple people say I barely failed and others say I failed horribly. I have since replaced all the plugs and wires as well as vacuum hoses and also a new rotor and distributer cap. I am a bit afraid to take it to emissions again because I have heard that they can and will junk my car and I will not ever be able to get it tagged. Any help would be greatly appreciated

A: look into having your O2 sensor(s) checked/replaced along with the EGR valve.
