Q: Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my 2006 mazda rx8, it wont start after I took it in for an oil change?
After the oil change, I drove it to run an errand and straight home about 20 miles total but it died right before I pulled into my driveway. When I have tried to start it a couple of times it smells like gas so I dont want to drown my engine or anything, and I know that oil can smell like gasoline also. There is a lot of something all over the top of the engine which is pretty clear in color with a greenish tint and a heavy smell of gasoline. The oil levels are fine as is the transmission fluid. Also the stuff thats all over the top of the engine is a different smell and consistancy than the oil that was put in. The battery is only about 4 months old so I dont think that has anything to do with it.
A: your best bet is to take it to a Mazda dealer and have them scrutinise it for any obvious floors. if they come across something. research it and then see if its worth paying for the fix.
or you could have a search yourself:
is their deffinately oil in her?
seals maybe damaged. so shes leaking. however you should be ables to see residue from the oil on the underside of the car. thirdly oil may have been replaced with the wrond type. this would account for her running for a short while. but then 'ceasing' after so long. if so, their is likely to be alot of damage done and will be expensive. unless you are extremely lucky and the EMS (Engine management system) realised their is a problem and shut the engine down. again if this is so, you will have to take it to a Mazda dealer to reset the system as you need codes only Mazda hold.
good luck (Y)
Q: What's the hp gain on an RX8 AEM cold air intake?
I have a 2006 mazda RX8 and I know that the K&N kit adds close to 10 hp, I've been trying to find the hp gain on the AEM kit, but I've had no luck so far. Does anybody now the hp gain with the AEM cold air intake kit?
A: Although the manufacturers like to state great HP gains, those numbers are seldom reached. This is why they advertise "Up to XX HP gained" They could say "up to 100 HP gained" and as long as there is a 1 HP gain they can't be sued for false advertising because the said "up to".
In most cars you will see gains around 8-10 HP, but not on the RX8. Mazda did a very good job of getting just about everything it could from the motor. Both the intake and exhaust on the RX8 are very good and well tuned.
User performed dyno tests have proven that the best of the aftermarket intakes only free up 3 - 4 HP at the wheels. Poorly made ones actually lose HP. The MazdaSpeed intake is modelled directly from the (and probably even made by) AEM units and are good quality.
Exhaust systems show the same. Good production units show 4 - 6 HP gains, while garbage ones lose power.

Q: Mazda Rx8 Starting Mods.?
I just bought a used 2006 Rx8 6 speed AUTO.i didn't get the manual for a couple of reasons but thats not the point. I was wondering what mods i could start off with right now riding fully stock performance becuase i want to increase the performance and keep the exterior stock. a turbo kit is too much right now. Limit around 1.5k. I was thinking a AEM cold intake, and a greddy sp2 exahust. but i also heard that's a waste because only adds a little hp gain. please gimme so advice.
A: I see you've done your research. Yes, Mazda made very efficient intakes and exhausts for their RX8's.
Dyno tests have proven that aftermarket intakes and exhausts for the RX8 generally give you about 3 to 5 HP increases each.
Probably the best bang for your buck is the Cobb Accessport Flash Tuner. "Chips" are useless for this car, instead just reflash the PCM/ECU with better maps. See here:

A good shop to buy this at is:

He will make up safe maps for you if you buy from him.

Q: Question For Mazda Rx8 Owners?
For those of you with Rx8's ranging from year 2006-2008.
What is your average miles per gallon?
I am deciding wether I should buy an Rx8 and the only thing stopping me is the gas guzzling I've heard of.
Also, does it require premium gas?
A: Well the biggest thing with the RX8 is how you drive it. The manual ones redline at 9500. Redline is actually good for the rotaryt engines. You'll be in fourth gear when most sports cars are already in 6th. One of the reasons I think they are arguebaly the best car to drive in traffic. You can literally drive in 2nd as long as you want for city driving. But all those things will destroy your gas mileage. If you drive it the way you would drive a auto civic or corrola you will average higer as you've read in some of the previous answers. So not that I was the greatest help. But you will average what the RX8's major competitors do and be able to enjoy it more in city traffic. Because with the weight distribution it's built to do more around curves. You can go faster around a curve than a 350z or G35 and enjoy your ride with out actually having to break the law. Most those other cars you will have to be speeding to get any of the enjoyment they are built for. Then you have a backseat unlike the 350z and more space in the back seat than a G35 with freestyle doors for easier entrance.
Q: Mazda Rx8 Maintainence, Help.?
Well im 99.5% sure im going to purchase a(used) 2006 six speed automatic Rx8. I've heard about the "maintainence problem" a lot esp from my brother who tells me not to get it and I'll regret it but i think these ppl who say it's a problem just don't understand how to maintain becuhz it's a special rotary engine. I understand the frequent oil changed and the high revs keeps the mechanic away and you have to rev it high a lot. So can someone please break down the specific things i have to do? Like for ex. Every let's say 3 k miles change the oil, so how frequent, also heard no synthetic, so type of oil, the high rev things? Do i have to drive it? Or just rev and hit high rpm's? Anything specific i need to know? Help please so i can have a high life with this thing =D thanks.
A: 1) Change oil every 3000 miles. This keeps the oil clean which is important as some of it is injected into the combustion chambers to lubricate the apex and side seals of the rotors via the Oil Metering Pump (OMP).
2) Watch your oil levels. You should check your oil level every couple gas fill ups. You will go through more oil than a piston engine due to the oil injection.
3) Many rotary owners supplement the oil injection by mixing 4 - 6 ounces of 2-cycle motor oil in with their gasoline. This adds a little bit of extra internal lubrication and insurance for motor life should the OMP not supply enough. You can use full synthetic 2 cycle for this. Stick with oils meant for motorcycles or snowmobiles, but not marine oils.
4) Synthetic motor oil is not recommended for the motor (except for a couple difficult-to-find brands). Synthetic oils are designed to be more stable and NOT burn off easily. But this is what you want in a rotary engine as clean burn-off means less deposits in the combustion chambers.
5) Mazda recommends 5W20, which is fine but a little thin, especially if you have hot summers and spend a lot of time stuck in traffic. 5W30 is better for those situations. Or you can just rev the motor as in 6 (below). Higher revs inject more oil.
6) Rev the engine "under load". This is what produces the heat required to cook off varnish & carbon deposits. You don't need to race the car, just let the engine rev to redline when you get the chance during normal driving. This is easier than you think. The engine revs so smoothly you'll often forget to shift because you can't really feel it at 7000 rpm.
7) Do not stop the engine cold. If you start it you should let it warm up to near operating temperatures. If you don't you'll risk flooding the motor. This is because all engines run "rich" (more gas" when cold. In a rotary this excess gas can pool at the bottom of the rotor housings, thinning the motor oil, and losing compression on the rotors. Read the manual on how to prevent or fix this should you run into it.

Q: Imagine this three stock cars without any modifications?
I need to buy a car, I like this three cars all from 2006, ford mustang, mazda rx8, infiniti g35, which ones faster has more lexury and which one is the overall best, which is the fastest in everyway, pleases help
A: I would definitely take a G35 coupe. It will have better resale value. If you take look at used ones even from 2003, they are still expensive. Also, it will definitely be the most reliable. Though I love the look of the RX-8, it has had quite a lot of reliability issues. One pain is that it has a 1.3L rotary engine needs a quart of oil every thousand miles (according to AutoWeek). The Mustang would be fun in GT form and it would be my second choice since it has so far shown to be reliable. I would say the G35 will be the best on gas too. The RX-8 has a small engine, but people have complained of average mpg in only the 14-18 miles per gallon. With the G35, it was anywhere from 19-25 miles per gallon. The Mustang was just bit lower than the G35. Finally, my main reason would be that I think the G35 would be fun to drive on top of all of the other advantages.
Q: Who will win this race?
2006 Mazda RX8 1.3L rotary, 238hp.... versus 1970 Thunderbird Fastback 429 Thunderjet, 425hp.
1 mile..... who wins?
Hubby and I have a debate, old versus new... and we're gonna test it someday soon... what do all you enthusiasts think?
(I figure I'll take him off the line, he'll waste me in the end..)
A: You are probably right, the RX is lighter than the Tbird so you'll prabably beat him off the line and then the TBird will do some stomping.
Q: What do you think of your 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS??
I have one and dont see many around my area. I like that I dont see them all over but I can never ask anyone about theirs.
Have you had any fuel-injection problems?
I put nothing but Ultra 94 octane (available at select sunoco stations) but had to have the fuel injector cleaned out @ 11k mi. Is this a common problem with this engine, and can it be prevented??
Is gas mileage an issue for you?
Even with the active fuel management sys mines a hog.....
What modifications have you made, both performance and appearance?
What have you lined up against, wins and loses?
I smoked a new mustang gt, mazda rx8 & impreza sti
Got tooled by a Z06
Thanks for your input
first of all, a-holes, I didnt post this to hear idiots who probably drive around in their mom's 88 geo metro dis my car.
you low lifes have nothing better to do than to sit on your computer all day and find people to pick on. this site is made for people to ask questions to people who know something about the topic.
for the chump who insulted chevy....I posted this under the chevrolet section and you responded like a day after I asked the question....this means you went looking for someone who posted a chevy question just to insult them. youre cool.
im not a nascar fan but didnt they just change the standard race car to an Impala SS?? no meaning behind that.
and you put 400+hp to any axle and the car is gonna fly. (ya ive made some improvements)
the Z06 beat me off the line but didnt have the sack to stay with me past 125. none of you chumps would, either.
now, anyone with any good insight towards the matter, I appreciate it.
A: first of all the 303 hp 5.3 liter engine has alot of grunt as you well know. secondly the only time youll really see a fuel mileage increase will be light to moderate ighway driving.not that mpg was your biggest consideration when you purchased the highest output motor available in the w body line. overall they seem to be a pretty good buy on the market today
Q: which one of these cars is the fastest?
I am looking at horse power, 0-60 times, and top speeds.
Now for the cars
Mitsubishi lancer evo 8 (2003-2006)
Toyota supra
Mazda rx7 (1993)
Mazda rx8
Mazda 3 (2001-2005)
Mazda 6 (2001-2005)
Toyota celica (2001-2005)
Honda civic
List in order from greatest to least
A: Toyota Supra with the twin turbo's or the one with the normal V6 engine? I am guessing the normal Supra.
In order:
Mazda RX-7
Mitsubishi Evo 8
Toyota Supra
Mazda RX-8
Mazda 6
Toyota Celica
Mazda 3
Honda Civic.
If you meant Honda Civic Si and Mazda 6 with the 4 cylinder engine and the base version of the Toyota Celica, then the results would be different.

If you want a sporty car with 4 doors (a guess based on the Lancer,Civic, Galant & RX8) get an Acura Legend, Acura Integra, Dodge Neon SRT-4, Nissan Maxima (99-) or of course a Honda Civic.
